This Medusa type gravestone reflects the transition from winged skulls to winged heads in the mid 1700's. The eye sockets are skull like but there are no skull teeth. There are no wings but a theory is the hair provided the power for the soul to rise to heaven. The gravestone is carved in the style of the Soule carvers of Plymouth.
