Nathaniel Fuller (1687 - 1750) of Middleborough was a major Plymouth area carver. He supplied many gravestones to Cape Cod. Other Plymouth area carvers who learned from Fuller and imitated his work included Seth Tinkham, William Cushman and Nathan Hayward. They all used a local green slate which has shown severe erosion over time. Fuller carved crude winged skulls but he was best known for crude winged heads which were transitional between winged skulls and the later realistic winged heads or winged portraits. Often Fuller's winged heads had unusual mouth marks and unusual wing patterns. The unusual mouth marks included heart shape, bird profile shape and head profile shape. The following gravestones are in the style of those produced by Fuller or his imitators.
