Portrait Gravestones

There are a few gravestones on Cape Cod from the late 1700's representing a new style of gravestone image. They display realistic figures from the waist up rather than just a head. There are no wings involved as with most 18th century gravestones. These are confident, wordly appearing figures. The examples below possibly were carved by the Lamsons of Boston. They also are listed under Lamson.

Micah Chapman (1792) - Dennis Village Cem.
Sarah Fessenden (1794) - Sandwich Cem.
