Erected to the memory of
CAPT JABEZ HOWES
who died at Hawkes Harbor
near the Streights of Belle Isle
on the 17th of July A D 1805
in the 35 year of his age

Though far from home on a distant shore
My flesh returns to dust
I hope to rise when JESUS comes
And dwell amongst the just
