Joseph Wilson 1886 ?

headstone

JOS. WILSON
CO. 1
73rd U. S. C. T.

This one-stone graveyard is in the woods off Quaker Meeting House Road. Joseph Wilson was a black Civil War soldier. A Veterans marker is next to the gravestone. The grave is surrounded by a chain link fence. Two American flags in good condition are mounted on the fence posts. The impressive inscribed boulder is in front of the fenced area. The photos and information were supplied by Caryn and Christopher Bowles April 2007.

The book "A Guide to Massachusetts Cemeteries" by David Allen Lambert published by NEHGS dates this cemetery as 1886. This probably was the year Joseph Wilson died. He probably was at least 40 years old.
