The carved image is one of the earliest dated winged heads on Cape Cod. Crossed bones with a winged head are rare. See Joshua Doane (1716) for a very similar gravestone. These gravestones are carved in the style of the Lamsons or Nathaniel Emmes of Boston. Note the diagonal grain in the slate.
