The small gravestone displays a round winged skull carved in the style of Nathaniel Emmes of Boston. It has been reported that Hannah was born with Down's syndrome. It is generally believed her father Josiah killed her so she would not live a life of suffering. Legend has it that her ghost searches for her father even to this day.

Also see Thomas Oakes (1719) for the Oakes Monument which includes Thomas Oakes (1719), Josiah Oakes (1732) and Hannah Oakes (1725).
